SETTING A NEW COURSE FOR AMERICA

DOUG OSE is a local Republican businessman and former member of Congress. His personal integrity, experience and proven dedication to taxpayers and fiscal accountability can help stop America’s drift and set a bold new course for our nation. When he was first elected to Congress in 1998, Ose promised to serve three consecutive terms, then retire to private life for a time before returning to public service. He was one of the few members of Congress to honor this pledge. “America is drifting,” he says of his decision to return to public service. “This is stifling our entrepreneurial spirit and economic strength, undermining our credibility as a world power, and eroding our confidence in government’s ability and willingness to serve taxpayers and do the right thing. “I want to help set a new course for our nation — to rebuild our economy, secure our borders, defend our national security and restore faith in government.”

A “HERO” FOR TAXPAYERS

As a member of Congress, Doug Ose was named a “Hero of the Taxpayers” by Americans for Tax Reform, earned a “Tax Fighter” award from the National Tax Limitation Committee and was saluted as a “Guardian of Small Business” by the National Federation of Independent Business. Other groups honored him for his patriotism, integrity and devotion to public service. In Congress, Ose voted for one of the largest tax cuts in American history — a $1.35 trillion tax reform package that ended the marriage penalty tax, lowered the death tax and increased child tax credits for American families. He was Chairman of a House Government Reform Committee, holding the IRS and other federal agencies accountable for wasting tax money. He spearheaded the Government Waste and Corrections Act aimed at stopping wasteful federal spending that was costing taxpayers $30 billion annually. He opposed automatic pay raises for members of Congress, and introduced legislation requiring members of Congress to forfeit their pay for every day the federal budget is late. As Chairman of a Government Reform Committee, Ose also took aim at government corruption. Under his leadership, the committee exposed former President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton for failing to properly report over $190,000 in jewelry, furniture and other personal gifts — which led to the introduction of legislation expanding presidential disclosure requirements. To fight illegal immigration, Ose voted to use new technology and additional agents to secure America’s borders, and fought efforts to block construction of a border fence.

“ONE NATION, UNDER GOD”

Doug Ose authored a resolution approved by Congress reaffirming congressional support for including the phrase “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance. He backed legislation against defiling the American flag, and voted to increase America’s military defenses and support the men and women serving in the armed forces. Ose will continue this fight in his return to Congress. He will hold government accountable for the money it spends, hold himself accountable to the people he serves, and conduct the people’s business according to the highest ethical standards. Ose was born in Sacramento in 1955. He earned a degree in business administration from the University of California at Berkeley. He and his wife, Lynnda, have two daughters, Erika and Emily.
